Glamour’s By Women series showcases Vivrelle, a luxury accessory rental service that allows consumers to enjoy high-end items without the financial burden of ownership.
In a significant spotlight on women-owned businesses, Glamour’s third annual By Women series features Vivrelle, a luxury accessory rental company co-founded by Blake Geffen in 2017. This initiative aims to support female entrepreneurs who own at least 51% of their business, allowing them to present their innovative products to a broader audience while guiding consumers to discover high-quality options.
Geffen’s journey to establish Vivrelle began after a personal experience in early 2015, where she purchased a coveted Saint Laurent bag after considerable saving and selling items from her closet on eBay. Speaking to Glamour, Geffen reflected on the moment, stating, “I’ll have and use this forever,” only to later consign it for a mere fraction of what she paid. This realization inspired her to create Vivrelle, which serves as a solution for those who desire access to luxury accessories without the hefty price tags typically associated with them.
Vivrelle operates on a subscription model where members can rent from a vast selection of fine jewelry and luxury handbags from esteemed brands such as Chanel, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. The rental price varies between $45 and $309 per month based on the chosen tier, with the “classique” level being the most popular, allowing access to one item valued up to $4,000 every 30 days.
The concept for Vivrelle took shape during Geffen’s honeymoon. “I knew I wanted my looks to be fashion-forward, fun, and high-end,” she noted, recognizing the need for a more accessible way for individuals to enjoy luxury items. Her passion for the idea led her and her husband to draft a business plan as they traveled.
Since its inception, Vivrelle has demonstrated significant business success. Geffen reported that the company surpassed its initial projections in its first month of operation and has continued to experience triple-digit growth annually. To further bolster its expansion, Vivrelle raised $35 million in a Series B funding round, attracting high-profile investors including actresses Nina Dobrev and Lily Collins.
Vivrelle distinguishes itself in the accessory rental market with an extensive inventory, allowing members to browse online or visit a showroom in New York City, where luxury handbags are elegantly displayed. The increasing interest in rental services highlights a growing trend in consumer behavior, favoring access over ownership when it comes to luxury products.
